"Even if this instrument had only one pickup it would still be extremely flexible. The six distinct single coil voices plus two humbucker tones make it maddeningly hard to put down"

Custom spec Gus G3 basses... Custom spec Gus G3 basses

I've built a couple of interesting custom specification G3 basses recently that I thought worthy of the News page!

The first is a G3 Five MIDI fretless featuring a Purple Candy over chrome fibre finish, a full 3 octave carbon fibre fingerboard and 'jewellery grade' gold plating. The bass was specced by the customer who already owns a fretted G3 Five MIDI. In common with this bass there are no visible mechanical fixings - everything is hidden or uses magnets - to maintain a clean visual appearance.

Beneath is a G3 Four Active in 'retro' guise specced by Brazilian player Paulo Roberto Diniz of Jota Quest. The theme was retro with a modern twist, so I used a creamy white paint, tinted Birdseye Maple 'board and headstock facing and a specially designed carbon fibre scratchplate. The pickup layout was also modded to give a full humbucker at the bridge as well as a number of combined tones.
